Description
Oil on board portrait of a woman wearing a hat by Philippe de Braconnier (French, 20th century). Influenced by Belgian painter, Paul Devaux, Braconnier’s subjects varied widely and possessed a surrealist quality. Braconnier’s portrait is indicative of European Expressionism style (as popularized by Edvard Munch’s “The Scream”), which depicts subjective rather than objective emotions in his work.
Possibly painted alla prima and signed lower left. Chips and paint loss to frame, discoloration to linen on frame.
